Throughout her involvement in Lathrup Village government, first as a Planning Commissioner and then as a City Councilmember, Ms. Miller has repeatedly shown that she does not understand her role, nor the procedures, rules, regulations or laws that govern these positions. In her position as a Council member, much of her incompetence is the result of her unwillingness to attend training. For example, newly elected officials traditionally attend the Michigan Municipal League’s newly elected officials training. Ms. Miller refused to go and insisted she did not need training. Below are several examples illustrating her lack of understanding of her role.
Ms. Miller’s position on the Planning Commission was not renewed because her fellow planning commissioners, the City Planner, and the City Council lost faith in her ability to properly perform her duties without putting the City at legal risk. Click here for more detail.
Ms. Miller fails to understand her current role on the Zoning Board of Appeals. She recently voted to approve a variance simply because it was something the resident desired, even though the legal requirements for variance approval were not met. Click here for more detail.
Ms. Miller regularly violates the separation of powers between City Council and City staff by directing staff and contractors, often via abusive emails. Click here for more detail.
The most important activity of City Council is producing the annual budget. Not only has Ms. Miller voted against the last two fiscal year budgets (and budget amendments), but it is clear that she does not understand the budget process. Click here for more detail.
