Due to current State tax laws, the City loses revenue every year and there are very few opportunities to increase revenue in a completely built-out City like Lathrup Village. One of those few opportunities would have been the licensing of two cannabis facilities in the City. Based upon recent payouts, this would have guaranteed additional revenue from the State of approximately $120,000 per year. In addition, as part of the competitive bid process for licenses, potential vendors were proposing to provide almost $1,000,000 in community improvements plus renovating two existing buildings. Additionally, the City lost approximately $100,000 in initial license application fees and $10,000 in annual license renewal revenue. Ms. Miller led the effort against cannabis in Lathrup Village starting well before she was elected.
In addition, during the period leading up to the 2022 City-wide vote on whether to allow cannabis in the City, Ms. Miller took to Facebook to influence voters, even though the City Attorney has repeatedly instructed Council members not to post on City related Facebook sites. Shockingly, she posted the names of residents and photos of residents’ homes who had lawn signs supporting the measure. One of several Facebook posts can be seen here.
