On January 23, 2023, City Council held a closed-door session. The Open Meetings Act (OMA) allows for closed door sessions in certain circumstances. The rules associated with closed door meetings prohibit attendees from making recordings and taking notes, and the details of any deliberations are to remain strictly confidential. The morning after the closed-door session, a resident inquired via email about specific statements made during the closed-door session, indicating a confidentiality breach. This type of breach is quite serious; as a result, the Attorney General of Michigan is investigating Council for this violation. Given the voluminous number of potential OMA violations that Ms. Miller has committed in the past, combined with her refusal to obtain training, history of disregard for procedure, and her relationship with the person who sent the post closed-door session email, she is a strong potential candidate for having breached the confidentiality required of a closed-door session.
